Look Who’s Dancing!™ is a special entertainment event organized to benefit the New Mexico State University DanceSport Company.  Our goal is to promote social dancing to the Las Cruces community as a healthful and enjoyable activity for all ages and all skill levels.

The competitors:

·       Susana Chaparro, Business Owner and First Lady of Las Cruces

·         Dolores Connor, Las Cruces City Councillor

·         Dr. Brian Gilbert, Owner, Bright Star Dental

·         Dr. Janet Green, Director, NMSU Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management

·         Eli Guzman, Owner, Guzman Sport Karate and Kickboxing

·         Margie Huerta, President, Doña Ana Community College

·         Mike McKay, Executive Vice President, Bravo Mic Communications

·         Kelly McKee, Head Football Coach, Oñate High School

The Dances
The talented DanceSport students will choreograph the dances, instruct, and perform with these local celebrities.  Each couple will perform two dances.  All couples will dance the Waltz, and the second dance will include Bolero, Cha Cha, Mambo, Paso Doble, Quickstep, Rumba, Samba, or Tango.

The Awards

First-, second- and third-place winners will receive mirror ball trophies.  New this year are the Entertainment Award, and the People’s Choice Award.  The Entertainment Award will be decided by three judges who were competitors in 2009:  Susana Martinez, Ruben Smith, and Wanda Mattiace.  The People’s Choice Award will be decided by just that … the people.  Eight containers bearing the names of each celebrity will be in the north lobby of the Pan-Am Center.  People will be encouraged to vote for their favorite competitors. Votes are cast by placing a dollar per vote into the containers.  They may vote as many times as they wish, and cash and checks will be accepted.

Social Dance After the Competition

Another new feature has been added to this year’s event.  Immediately following the competition, ticketholders will be invited to dance to live music for two hours at no additional cost.  Bob Burns and the Mike Caranda Orchestra, featuring singer Judy Day, will provide the music.  The twelve-piece big-band style orchestra also includes Ruben Smith on the saxophone.  Smith was a crowd favorite and third-place winner in the 2009 “Look Who’s Dancing!”™

Top it Off with Dessert and Champagne!
Also after the competition, the students of NMSU's School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management will host a sidewalk café called the "Tango Terrace" where attendees can buy delicious desserts.  At the cash bar, champagne, wine, beer, water and coffee will be available.
